Can a manager delegate work to a new, part-time employee, to verify other employees’ personal information…i.e. driver license information?

Rita M. Risser Chai replies:
In general, managers can delegate work, and it doesn’t matter if the employee is new or part-time, or the information is personal, as long as the employer has the right to obtain that information, as would be the case with driver’s licenses for drivers. If the information being handled is very confidential, such as medical records, it is best to only be handled by someone in Human Resources who is aware of their duty to maintain confidentiality.
