Asking about your involvement in a group related to your gender, race, national origin, age, political beliefs, and so on, is an illegal invasion of privacy in some states such as New York and California. In addition, if this information is used to take action against you, that may be illegal discrimination. For example, if you attended a Black Lives Matter protest, and then were terminated, that could be illegal race discrimination, whether or not you are Black. You should probably talk to a local attorney if anything happens to you at work. Good luck.
