My boss made me pick up co-workers and drive them home for a year and a half, but refused to pay me gas costs or travel time or overtime. When I finally refused to keep doing it without getting paid, I was no longer scheduled for work. Is that legal?

Sorry to hear about this situation. An employee is entitled to reimbursement for expenses on the job, and to pay (including overtime) for this kind of work. Also, it is a wrongful termination/retaliation in CA to fire an employee for questioning his pay, or lack of it. The Labor Commissioner can help you get back pay, expenses, interest and penalties. You should also consider consulting with an employment attorney in your area as to your other legal options. Good luck.
